Feel More Calm, Confident, and Clear

You’ve been holding it together, pushing through the stress, and doing your best to manage. But underneath, it’s been a lot.

I’m Emily Kitts, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) providing in-person and online therapy in Walnut Creek, California. I help people who are feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, work stress, or relationship challenges to help them feel more like themselves again.

What Therapy Looks Like With Me

Therapy with me is collaborative, practical, and based in real conversation. I won’t just sit back and nod. I ask thoughtful questions, offer honest reflections, and suggest approaches that feel helpful in your everyday life. Not because you need fixing, but because you deserve support that truly helps.

You don’t have to come in with the perfect words or a clear plan. Just show up as you are. We’ll take time to understand what’s been hard lately and what kind of support could help you feel better.

Some sessions are about working through the hard stuff, like what’s weighing on you or keeping you stuck. Other times, it’s about noticing what’s shifted, including subtle changes in how you feel, think, or show up in your life.

My Approach to Therapy

I draw from a range of approaches tailored to what feels most supportive for you.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is practical and collaborative. It helps you understand how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connect and how shifting those patterns can bring real relief. It’s my go-to for things like anxiety, stress, and burnout, because it offers clear structure and real-life strategies you can actually use.

  • Mindfulness and Meditation

Mindfulness helps you slow down and notice what’s really going on, instead of getting swept up in what-ifs or old habits. Whether we explore mindfulness in session or find small ways to bring it into your daily life, mindfulness can bring more calm, focus, and space to respond rather than react.

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR supports healing from trauma, painful memories, or old relationship wounds. You don’t need to go into every detail. EMDR works on a deeper nervous system level to help process what still feels stuck or overwhelming. We can integrate it into our work when it feels like the right fit for what you’re working through.

  • Strengths-Based Therapy

We’ll focus on what’s working and not just what’s hard. I’ll help you reconnect with the strengths, values, and resilience that have carried you through tough times before. That’s what makes therapy a place to grow into what’s possible, not just sort through what’s painful.

Each of these approaches is backed by research and guided by care.
We’ll use what feels most helpful and leave behind what doesn’t.

Common Struggles I Help With and How Therapy Can Help

Most of the clients I work with are thoughtful, high-functioning people who are quietly struggling with things no one else sees. From the outside, life might look fine, but inside, it’s a different story.

Here’s what we often work through together, and how therapy can help:

  • Anxiety and Overwhelm
You might feel like your mind won’t stop racing, you’re constantly on edge, or sleep is  a struggle even when there’s no clear reason why or nothing seems “wrong.” Together, we’ll get to the root of your anxiety, not just manage symptoms.

  • Work Stress and Burnout
Whether you’re dealing with a toxic work environment, feeling pressure to keep performing, or questioning what’s next, we’ll sort through what’s weighing on you and figure out what kind of work life actually feels supportive and right for you.

  • Relationship Struggles You might feel unsure where you stand with someone, find yourself second-guessing your needs, or get stuck in the same frustrating patterns. We’ll look at what’s really happening and work toward stronger boundaries, clearer communication, and relationships that feel more secure.

Even if what you’re going through doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories, that doesn’t make it any less important. If something is weighing on you, we can work through it together.

A Bit About Me

Outside of therapy, I love reading, doing yoga, or hanging out with my family. I love live music, Saturday mornings that start slow, and being outside whenever I can.

These are the things that help me recharge and remind me that healing isn’t just about feeling better, but about reconnecting with what really matters.
